The Office of the eSafety Commissioner’s eSafetyWomen program was recognised as ‘Outreach Program of the Year’ at the Australian Information Security Association’s (AISA) awards.
The award-winning program provides advice and assistance to women who are abused, stalked or controlled through technology, and training and resources to assist domestic and family violence frontline workers responsible for helping women in these situations.
To date eSafetyWomen has reached over 6,000 frontline workers around the country through informative face-to-face workshops. In June, an online training program was launched to help even more professionals in this area understand the risks and ways to help their clients protect and empower themselves through technology.
“We are incredibly proud of what eSafetyWomen has achieved, and the AISA accolade further acknowledges its crucial role in equipping women who experience technology-facilitated abuse with the right information and support,” says Julie Inman Grant, eSafety Commissioner.
“Although technology is commonly used by perpetrators to further surveil and stalk victims, it’s important women escaping domestic violence situations can still use their devices safely, as they can be a lifeline to stay connected to friends and family,” adds Inman Grant.
The eSafetyWomen program was developed by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner in 2016, as part of the Australian Government’s Women’s Safety Package to Stop the Violence.
