The Decline of Ransomware Attacks

0

Cyberint has compiled a report on the state of ransomware that reflects the incidents – both well-known and under the radar – that transformed ransomware in Q3 2022 with the number of documented victims lower by 15% since Q2 and by around 30% compared to Q1.

The report analyses key news and findings, including:

  • The rise of Lockbit 3.0, coming out above all other emerging groups from the previous quarter, who carried out 37% of all ransomware attacks this quarter (a 5% increase from the Q2).
  • Lockbit carried out PR activities, including $1,000 rewards for anyone who got a tattoo of their logo
  • The takedown of Conti led to an equal distribution of their share of activity amongst remaining groups
  • Western countries such as the US, UK, France, Spain and Germany remain the most targeted
  • 85 new ransomware families were introduced, yet the number of documented victims is lower by 15% since Q2 and by around 30% compared to Q1
