Coalition has expanded its global cyber insurance offering with a new Deepfake Response Endorsement, providing businesses with technical, legal and reputational support when faced with damaging AI-generated impersonations.
The endorsement, announced today, is now included in Coalition’s Cyber Insurance policies worldwide and is designed to help organisations respond to the growing threat posed by deepfake videos, audio and imagery used to manipulate markets, undermine leadership or harm corporate reputation.
“Businesses can do everything right—lock down networks, ignore fraudulent funds transfer requests, comply with privacy laws—only to have their reputation damaged by a deepfake,” said Tiago Henriques, Chief Underwriting Officer at Coalition. “Coalition’s Deepfake Response Endorsement helps businesses respond to and recover from these potentially damaging situations with specialised technical, legal, and reputational support.”
The endorsement allows brokers to offer clients additional protection as AI-driven risks become more sophisticated and difficult to detect. Coalition says the coverage can respond to scenarios such as a CEO being falsely depicted making inflammatory statements designed to damage the company’s credibility, or an employee’s likeness being manipulated to influence stock prices.
“Cyber insurance is designed to respond to evolving digital risk. As new risks like deepfakes arise, they become more sophisticated and tricky to spot,” said Michael Phillips (pictured), Head of Cyber Portfolio Underwriting at Coalition. “It’s crucial for businesses to feel confident that they have a partner who can help them recover from a damaging incident. Our Deepfake Response Endorsement provides clarity around what support would be provided to mitigate the damaging impact of AI-generated impersonations.”
The endorsement broadens Coalition’s cyber policy coverage by expanding protections to address deepfake incidents and providing access to specialist resources. These include forensic technical analysis of suspected deepfakes, legal support to remove content from online platforms, and crisis communications assistance from a public relations firm.
The Deepfake Response Endorsement is available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada (including Quebec), Australia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and France.
