Cyber8Lab in partnership with the Wanneroo Business Association (WBA) and supported by the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN), Perth Chapter, have successfully launched its first Cyber Attack-Response Drill (CARD) on the 26th November 2016 in Western Australia.
The event was attended by individuals from various sectors including academia, cyber security professionals, food industries, healthcare, and the Australian Security Magazine. The event showcased the importance of joint collaboration between a Business Association, a Non-for-Profit Organisation and Infosec Industry.
C.A.R.D was designed to provide an avenue for participants to learn how to respond to cyberattacks in a controlled environment. The exercise focused on post-incident investigations and analysis of different types of cyberattacks such as Phishing, Wireless Intrusion, and Web Defacement.
“We wouldn’t have done it without the partnership and support of WBA and AWSN respectively. Collectively, we want to get a message across to say that the cyber drill is finally here. Now, we are proud to say that together we have successfully brought in the most sought after hands-on skills and knowledge based on a real-life cyberattack scenarios into this market”, said Daisy Sinclair, the Founder and Project Lead at the Cyber8Lab.

Attendees loved the day and it was great to see innovation such as this taking place to help not just businesses operate in safer ways but individuals to explore careers in cyber security.” added Lauren McGee, Business Liaison Officer, Wanneroo Business Association.

For university students studying in the field it gives them an opportunity to sample what it would be like to work in a cyber security role- particularly for those who undergo the C.A.R.D. programme, as it provides hands on training which allows participants to experience the excitement and challenges that come with working in the industry.” said Samantha Moody, Head of the AWSN Perth Chapter.
During the event, Cyber8Lab also invited an industry expert, Mr. Tom Jreige, a Principal Advisor from Hivint Pty Ltd as a Guest Speaker. Tom shared his extensive cybersecurity experience in the context to the three scenarios conducted on the day.
Cyber8Lab will be rolling out its two-day Cyber Attack-Response Drill (CARD) in the first quarter of next year. The drill will include two more scenarios which are the Botnet Malware Attack scenario and Data Leakage scenario.
