Acronis’ newly released H1 2024 Cyberthreats Report reveals a 293% surge in email attacks compared to the same time last year.
The report draws on data from over one million unique Windows endpoints across 15 countries. Its conclusions on the top cybersecurity trends in the first half of 2024 include:
-
Ransomware rise: A 32% increase in ransomware detections from Q4 2023 to Q1 2024, with ten new ransomware groups responsible for 84 attacks globally;
-
Targeted sectors: Small and medium businesses, especially in critical sectors like government and healthcare, are prime targets;
-
Managed Serviced Providers (MSPs) are under siege: MSPs face growing threats, with phishing and social engineering attacks being particularly effective; and
-
AI in cybercrime: Increasing use of generative AI and large language models in social engineering and automation attacks.
Acronis Threat Research Unit’s Irina Artioli emphasises the need for MSPs to adopt comprehensive security strategies, including advanced endpoint protection and security awareness training.
