Capgemini and Swinburne University of Technology have announced a new global Blockchain Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Melbourne. The CoE will undertake blockchain research, innovation and education, focused on advancing blockchain technologies, platforms, assets and systems to allow further uptake of the technology by industry and society.
“Blockchain is at the heart of the fourth industrial revolution and digital economy,” says Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Aleksandar Subic. “We see this technology as the key digital innovation platform supporting global supply chains and trade across a range of industry sectors. This partnership with Capgemini will allow us to consolidate our complementary capabilities and networks within the scope of an interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence. This development will allow experts to engage collaboratively from across the university and industries with leading capabilities in financial services, computer science, engineering, design, law and business.”
The Centre will provide research-led thought leadership as well as drive strategic blockchain developments in financial services, creative industries, manufacturing, food, pharmaceutical and health domains. The multi-disciplinary team from Swinburne University will engage with Capgemini’s network of global experts to lead innovative blockchain solutions from proof-of-concept to production, by addressing complex business problems focused on financial services, trade and supply chain areas.
“Applying blockchain to enterprises is a game changer for many industries. There are some exciting use cases across industries in the marketplace that are showing the benefits of blockchain-enabled solutions. Our collaboration with Swinburne University will provide a platform for industry collaboration with academic institutions and start-up communities to support innovation and growth in today’s digital economy,” added Sudhir Pai, Chief Technology Officer for Financial Services at Capgemini.
Activities at the Capgemini Blockchain Centre of Excellence at Swinburne will be co-led by Sudhir Pai for Capgemini and Swinburne’s Professor Yang Xiang, Dean of Digital Research & Innovation Capability Platform.
