Crowdsourced security business Bugcrowd has acquired Informer, a company dealing in external attack surface management (ASM) and continuous penetration testing.
Bugcrowd says the acquisition widens its innovation lead in providing crowdsourced security to customers of all sizes and across all industries, delivered through a flexible, data and AI-driven SaaS platform.
“I am excited to welcome Informer to the Bugcrowd team,” said CEO Dave Gerry. “This marks the first acquisition following our USD102 million fundraising and underscores our dedication to ongoing growth and innovation. We are committed to evolving organically and through acquisition, and we will continue to deliver the best possible experience to our customers.”
Founded in 2014, Informer automates the identification of the external attack surface from organisations and provides specialised penetration testing services to its clients. The company combines continuous asset discovery and penetration testing in one platform. Informer has built a strong external ASM platform that provides organisations with real-time visibility into their perimeter.
The acquisition will see Bugcrowd expand its footprint in the growing ASM market, tipped to be worth USD3.3 billion by 2029.
Bugcrowd says the combination of the two platforms will enhance the value that customers receive by bringing best-of-breed asset discovery and monitoring to multiple use cases. Informer’s penetration testing capability and ASM platform will complement Bugcrowd penetration testing services and its existing Attack Surface Management offering (Bugcrowd ASM Risk) powered by the hacker community.
“Our mission is to develop a platform that anticipates and predicts cyber risks,” said Gerry. “By nurturing a trusted community built on the collective ingenuity of organisations, hackers, and security professionals, we aim to mitigate risk across all applications, systems, and infrastructure.”
“Informer’s ASM SaaS platform and penetration testing capabilities will further enhance Bugcrowd’s AI-powered crowdsourced security platform,” said Bugcrowd COO Tanya Gay. “Informer’s customers will continue to have access to Informer’s platform and products without service disruption.”
