ASIS International Successfully Delivered ASIS Asia-Pacific 2011.

ASIS International held its 5th Asia-Pacific Conference & Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5 – 7 December. The event attracted 227 senior security professionals from 35 countries.

The conference was officially opened by ASIS International President Raymond T. O’Hara, CPP at the President’s Reception, held at the world famous Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The educational program highlighted two esteemed keynote speakers:

Dato’ Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar, Deputy Inspector General, Royal Malaysia Police, who shared his experience on Government and private sector role in combating transnational Crime; and

Dato’ Mohd Som Sulaiman, Deputy Commissioner (Retired) of the Royal Police of Malaysia, who shared his experience on security intelligence procurement and operations against subversive, espionage, sabotage, international terrorists and criminal activities as well as been the Head of Security in a multinational company.

The conference was closed by a panel session on terrorism, business and human rights. Moderated by Hugh McLeod, Chief Operating Officer of Stirling Assynt, the panellists included Michael Pepper, CPP, PSP Director of MAP Datum Limited, New Zealand and Professor Narayanan Srinivasan, Professor of Security and Risk at Edith Cowan University, Australia.

The conference featured 33 high-level educational sessions delivered by speakers that included Pramod Bhatt, Head of Protective Intelligence South Asia, Deutsche Bank, on ―Web 2.0: Risk from social media”; Richard Grezl, Group Security Office Hub Manager Asia, Swiss Reinsurance, on ―Not just Mr Plod – Future roles of Corporate Security Managers”; and Dr Govind Das, Associate Professor Department of Defence & Strategic Studies, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Government Degree College, on ―Naxal Violence: Threat to Internal Security of India”.

In addition, sessions designed especially for Chief Security Officers (CSOs) were organised by the CSO Roundtable, the ASIS forum for the most senior security professionals from the largest and most influential organisations in the world.

The conference was also made successful with the support of 7 sponsors, 11 exhibitors and 5 media partners, who demonstrated their products and services to the attendees.

The event, renamed ASIS 6th Asia Pacific Security Forum & Exhibition, will take place in Hong Kong on 3-5 December 2012.
