Managing Director of Briggs Communications Allan Briggs, a crisis communications expert, told delegates at the Informa National Campus Security & Safety Conference in Sydney he was alarmed at the lack of preparation major organisations were taking in response to the new terror threat.

“Sadly the threat has become real with recent events such as the Lindt shooting and arrests of five men in Melbourne alleged to be plotting to kill a police officer then kill members of the public. Whilst organisations cannot prevent such events they can prepare for them” said Mr Briggs.

“Some organisations are taking this seriously and will be placed in the best position should they experience an act of terrorism, however many are not, and are dangerously under-prepared.”

Representatives from NSW Police, university security managers and risks experts gave conference delegates insights on what the new terrorism threat means to the university sector and how they need to prepare.
