PART 3

In no more than 800 words please explain why you wish to be elected as an Individual Member of the Council and what you will bring to the Council.  You should consider the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrated commitment and engagement to the security profession.
  2. A willingness to allocate appropriate commitment of time to the activities of the ACSP (e.g. an anticipated minimum of 100 hours over a 12 month period).
  3. The ability to commit appropriate resources and support to the work of the ACSP.
  4. Individual characteristics that broadly reflect the profession, including experience and professionalism as judged by peers or the breadth and depth of professional expertise.  (Including such examples as publications, mentoring and association leadership.)

Process for Election of Individual Members to the Council

At its meeting of 3 September 2010 the Council agreed to the following procedure for the election of individual members.

Noting that Association and Academic/ Educational members are nominated by their organizations, there is a requirement for an objective method to select Individual Council members that is in accordance with the Council Rules.

Method of Election

A call for written nominations is to be issued through the Association and Academic/ Educational members of the Council and the security-related media each year.  The call to include the membership criteria as already established by the Council i.e. “Individual members representing expertise, experience and standing in the security profession”.

Written nominations to be forwarded to the Returning Officer (who is not to be an Individual Member of the Council unless such person is retiring from the Council).

Nominations to be forwarded  by the Returning Officer to the Academic/Educational and Association members of the Council who, under the auspices of an appointed Membership Electoral Officer, will assess the nominations against the following criteria:

“The membership of the ACSP shall be considered against the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrated commitment and engagement to the security profession.
  2. A willingness to allocate appropriate commitment of time to the activities of the ACSP (e.g. an anticipated 100 hours over a 12 month period).
  3. The ability to commit appropriate resources and support to the work of the ACSP
  4. To be selected for their individual characteristics that broadly reflect the profession including their experience and professionalism as judged by their peers or the breadth and depth of their professional expertise”

The Academic/Educational and Association members of the Council will select, by vote, enough Individual members to fill the vacancies for the February Meeting of each year.  There are currently nine Individual members this is to be the maximum number unless changed by the Council.  If less than nine suitable applications are received vacancies may be carried.

Individual Council members will serve no more than a two year term and be required to undertake a minimum one year hiatus before re-nominating for the Council.
