Quick Solving and Prevention of Crime: COM-SUR at Interpol World

Facebook BannerIncidents do not differ by geographies. An incident (Terror, Theft, Assault, etc.) in the U.S. is not any different than one in the U.K. or India. It therefore becomes imperative to adopt ONE ‘Minimum’ Global Standard of an Incident Report.

COM-SUR lets the affected party create Standardized Intelligent Incident Reports in universal formats like PowerPoint/PDF, which carry the entire story (5Ws and 1H) along with photo/video evidence. Imagine how much burden would be reduced for Law Enforcement Agencies if they receive such a Report (containing every bit of detail) from the affected party. Further, all it would take is one click to share the same across the world. Think of an incident that takes place in one suburb quickly being shared via email with other suburbs, cities, and even countries; and with the Incident Report being in PowerPoint/PDF, it’s easy to view/annotate it on a phone or tablet. This would mean that the chances of apprehending the perpetrators faster, just got higher.

Standardization takes away confusion since “everyone speaks the same language“. Further, Standardization helps deliver intelligence in the form of patterns: “what kind of incidents are taking place at what locations, at what time, on which particular days” and so on. This makes it possible to take preventive and corrective action. Think of the amount of metadata that can be gathered and used by an organization, industry, or a country as a whole.

What else does COM-SUR do efficiently?

1) Backup and Review

Com-Sur captures Screenshots of Surveillance Video at user defined intervals and saves them at up to five locations (including Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive) in real-time. This acts as a Backup of Video in the form of Screenshots, ensuring that in case the recorder fails, is stolen/destroyed/tampered with, there will always be a Backup available.

Further it is accepted that nobody Reviews Surveillance Video as a SOP, although there is a great case for PostFacto Surveillance. The reason is simple; it’s too cumbersome to do so. While larger organizations rely on ‘alarms’, smaller organizations look at Video only when there is a ‘need’. Com-Sur can change all this, and make ‘Review’ as an integral and critical part of Video Surveillance. Using Com-Sur’s Speedy Reviewer, users can rapidly Review hours of Video in minutes. This Speedy Reviewer offers features like Zoom and Pan into all Screenshots, flagging them to capture multiple exceptions, as well as quickly converting relevant Screenshots into a movie file for quick and easy sharing. A wonderful integration with Skype making sharing seamless. Reviewing Video as a SOP helps users ‘discover’ ‘seeminglyinorder‘ issues; example, a recce.

2) Aggregation from multiple Video sources
Com-Sur acts as a great
aggregator of Images/Photos/Screenshots. This makes it very easy to aggregate relevant Screenshots from multiple Video sources as well as from Photos taken by a camera/mobile phone. Such efficient aggregation, as well as all of the ‘next steps’ that Com-Sur offers become very essential in cases like the Boston Marathon/Toronto Riots, where multiple Law Enforcement Agencies had to go through thousands of hours of Video/Photos.

3) Creation of ‘Visual Lists’
Com-Sur creates
‘Visual Lists’ (Contact Sheets) in Word/PDF. Visual Lists can be very useful tools to share large number of Photos, along with relevant information like contact details etc. For example, lists of staff (e.g. guards on duty), details of suspects at various borders and entry points etc. Think of Interpol sharing information of potential terrorists with member countries in one standard format, along with information that can easily be edited by the receiving authorities to suit their language and other needs.

Gautam Goradia, CEO & MD, Hayagriva Software states “while perpetrators will always find newer ways to carry out criminal acts, using a tool like Com-Sur will constantly be useful to document and ‘gain’ from the same, in order to prevent and thwart future ones.”
